All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace & Security (APPG–WPS)
Registered in 2006, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security (APPG–WPS) is a cross-party forum for discussion, scrutiny and learning on issues relating to the Women, Peace and Security agenda. It brings together parliamentarians, policymakers, practitioners and civil society to examine how the UK advances and implements its WPS commitments. GAPS serves as the secretariat to the APPG–WPS, supporting its coordination, policy engagement and parliamentary activity.
The APPG–WPS focuses on the UK Government’s delivery of its Women, Peace and Security obligations - including those under UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and subsequent resolutions. It highlights the vital role that women and girls, and the organisations that represent them, play in peace, security and conflict prevention, and examines how conflict, crisis and insecurity affect women, girls and marginalised groups both globally and within the UK.
Annual Report to Parliament
The APPG–WPS hosts the UK Government’s annual Report to Parliament on Women, Peace and Security, providing a key mechanism for transparency and accountability on the government’s progress, challenges and priorities.
At this annual event, the UK Government presents its progress on the UK National Action Plan (NAP) on Women, Peace and Security to Parliament. Ministers from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Ministry of Defence, the departments responsible for implementing the UK NAP, provide an oral update and respond to questions.
GAPS reviews the Government’s Annual Report and presents its own Shadow Report, developed with civil society to provide independent analysis and recommendations. Civil society organisations use this event to question the Government, highlight gaps, and offer feedback on progress toward the NAP’s commitments.
