APPG-WPS Events.
The APPG-WPS holds meetings and events with civil society, INGOs, Parliamentarians and Governments.
Events by the APPG-WPS allow civil society, INGOs, Parliamentarians and Governments to have dialogue on Women, Peace and Security issues and open up access for collaborative efforts to eliminate gender inequality. Public events by the APPG-WPS are free to attend and there is always a Q&A section for the audience to ask questions.
An important event in the APPG-WPS calendar is the NAP Report to Parliament. At this annual event, the UK Government orally present their progress on the UK National Action Plan (NAP) on Women, Peace and Security to Parliament. This includes Ministers from the UK Departments who implement the UK NAP which is the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Ministry of Defence. GAPS will review this Annual Report and present its own Shadow Report, written by civil society. Civil society use this event to ask questions to the UK Government and give feedback on its progress on the NAP, read the report from the latest Report to Parliament here.

UNSCR 1325 revisited: what avenues for progress on Women, Peace and Security 25 years on?
In October, GAPS joined the LSE Centre for Women Peace and Security, ODI Global and the Research Network on Women, Peace and Security to host an expert roundtable to mark the anniversary of UNSCR 1325 and outline key steps for global policy makers to advance WPS over the next 25 years.
At a time of increasing global instability, the WPS agenda faces unprecedented threats. However, in an era marked by rising authoritarianism, geopolitical tension, rising militarism and rollback on rights, the WPS agenda can provide a rights-based framework to inform effective policy responses.
APPG on Women, Peace and Security: Marking the 25th Anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325
On Wednesday 12th September 2025, the All Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace & Security (WPS), together with the All Party Parliamentary Group on Conflict Prevention, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding hosted an event in the CPA (Commonwealth Parliamentary Association) Room in Parliament to mark the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
Visit to Imperial War Museum Exhibition - Unsilenced: Sexual Violence in Conflict
On Wednesday 17 September 2025, the APPG on Women, Peace & Security attended a private tour of the Imperial War Museum exhibition Unsilenced: Sexual Violence in Conflict.The Curator of the Exhibition, discussed the research and design-process behind the Exhibition, focusing on how the Exhibition aims to shed light on the pervasive and devasting nature of sexual violence in conflict, a topic that remains under-discussed.
Roundtable at the House of Lords
On Tuesday 16th September 2025, the All Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace & Security, together with the All Party Parliamentary Group on Conflict Prevention, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding hosted a roundtable at the House of Lords with Naglaa Elhag, the Regional Director for the MENA Region of Search for Common Ground (SFCG).
Genocide in Afghanistan: The Situation of the Hazaras
On Monday, September 1st, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security organised an event in collaboration with the New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on International Law, Justice, and Accountability Globally, and Bolaq Analysts Network titled “Genocide in Afghanistan: The Situation of the Hazaras.”
'The Sharp Edge of Peace' Documentary Screening and Discussion
On Wednesday 9th July, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security (APPG-WPS) hosted a discussion and screening excerpt of the documentary The Sharp Edge of Peace chaired by Baroness Hodgson, co-chair of APPG-WPS. Directed by Roya Sadat, the film is a powerful and revealing documentary following four Afghan women delegates–Dr. Habiba Sarabi, Fawzia Koofi, Sharifa Zurmati, and Fatima Gailani–as they participate in the 2020 Doha Peace Negotiations.
Supporting Women’s Networks in Crisis Response with ICAN
On Tuesday 17 June, The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security and the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN) hosted an event to discuss supporting women's networks in crisis response. The session, chaired by Baroness Hodgson of Abinger CBE, Co-Chair of the APPG on Women, Peace and Security, brought together a panel of leading voices including Sanam Anderlini and France Bognon from ICAN, Frederico Motka from Vitol, and Muna Luqman from Yemen.
Roundtable with the NATO Secretary General
APPG on Women, Peace and Security roundtable with the NATO Secretary General's Special Representative on Women, Peace and Security, Irene Fellin. 13th May, 2025 The meeting opened with discussion with the NATO SG SR on WPS on the United Kingdom’s role as a key NATO ally and UN Penholder on Women, Peace and Security (WPS), highlighting its longstanding contributions to mediation and gender integration in international security. It was emphasised the need for sustained political will and funding to protect WPS progress, especially in today’s complex global context. Despite external challenges, it was agreed that consistent advocacy remains essential.
SGBV in Sudan
APPG on Women, Peace, and Security: SGBV in Sudan. 23rd April, 2025. In recognition of the two-year anniversary of the war in Sudan, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security organised an event titled “Sexual and Gender-based violence in Sudan.” The event—chaired by Baroness Hodgson, co-chair of the APPG-WPS—focused on the systematic nature of sexual violence in Sudan and how the consequences have transpired within the borders of the UK. This event was conducted with Chatham House rules.
“Devi” Documentary Screening and panel on CRSV in Nepal
On April 1st 2025, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security organised a screening of the award-winning documentary, Devi, about Nepali conflict related sexual violence campaigner, Devi Khadka. The film addresses Khadka’s battle for justice for thousands of unrecognised survivors of sexual violence from Nepal’s ten year civil war, that ended in 2006.
“Conflict-Related Sexual and Reproductive Violence in Tigray”
In honour of International Women’s Day, on Thursday, March 6th, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security organised an event in collaboration with the New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on International Law, Justice, and Accountability Globally, and the Tigray All-Party Parliamentary Group titled “Conflict-Related Sexual and Reproductive Violence in Tigray.” The event—chaired by Baroness Hodgson, co-chair of the APPG-WPS—focused on the continued perpetration of CRSV in Tigray after the 2022 Cessation of Hostilities Agreement. While the world has moved on, the survivors of sexual violence in Tigray still wait for justice and accountability.
Briefing to MPs on WPS
On Monday 10th February, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security (APPG-WPS) organised a briefing to Parliamentarians on advancing women’s rights in conflict through the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. The event welcomed Professor Christine Chinkin, Professor in International Law from the LSE; Joanna Crouch, Policy Lead on Human Security for the Ministry of Defence; Tess Phippen, Head of WPS at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office; and Eva Tabbasam, Director for Gender Action for Peace and Security.
Roundtable on Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia
Situation of Wiwa women who live in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia A Roundtable was held on Tuesday 19th November:
The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, known as the “heart of the world”, has suffered a loss of 92% of its snow-capped peaks affecting 385 glacial lakes, 36 watersheds and 9 important rivers that supply drinking water to more than one million people. This situation could worsen due to the granting of 151 mining licenses, covering 112 hectares, and a further 95 applications that are being processed, covering 78,000 hectares. In other words, 10% of the ancestral territory is affected.
Maternal and Child Heath in South Darfur
On Tuesday 14th January, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security (APPG-WPS) and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) co-sponsored a panel event on Maternal and Child Heath in South Darfur.
Countering Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan
On Tuesday 29th October, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security (APPG-WPS) and the Malala Fund hosted a discussion: Countering Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan: Policy Options for Accountability. The following speakers took part: Malala Yousafzai, Co-founder of the Malala Fund; Sahar Halaimzai – Afghanistan Director of the Malala Fund; Horia Mosadiq, Founder and Director of SRMO; Hamish Falconer MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan; and Baroness Helic from the House of Lords. The event was very well attended.
Roundtable on WPS Leads in Embassies and High Commissions
The APPG on Women, Peace & Security in collaboration with the High Commission of Canada held a roundtable on 9th December with leads on WPS in Embassies and High Commissions in London. Participants gathered to discuss how some governments are increasingly applying WPS principles domestically to help tackle and build national resilience to transnational challenges such as climate insecurity and online gender-based violence.
Human Security in Defence: Policy and Practise
On Thursday 28th November, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security (APPG-WPS) hosted the event: Human Security in Defence: Policy and Practise. The event welcomed the following speakers: Luke Pollard, Minister for the Armed Forces; Joanna Crouch, Policy Lead, Human Security in Defence, Ministry of Defence; Dr Lucy McDermott, Policy Advisor, Human Security in Defence, Ministry of Defence; and Lt Col. N Twumasi-Ankrah, MVO, RHG/D, Commanding Officer, Outreach Group.
Promoting Inclusive Peace
On 13th November 2024, the Foreign Policy Centre (FPC), in collaboration with the Department of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Birmingham (POLSIS) and the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women, Peace and Security (APPG-WPS) convened a parliamentary roundtable to discuss how to negotiate, design and implement effective peace processes and how the UK can promote inclusive peace processes abroad.

On 21 May 2024, Yazidi human rights defenders, Hewan Omer, Free Yezidi Foundation, Country Director, and Khalida Nawaf Ilyas, Free Yezidi Foundation, Livelihoods Manager, addressed the UK Parliament before the 10th anniversary of the Yazidi genocide.
Understanding Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) in the Context of Contemporary Proxy Warfare
On Tuesday 30th April, the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) organised an event in collaboration with the Henry Jackson Society, “Understanding Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) in the Context of Contemporary Proxy Warfare”. The event—chaired by Baroness Hodgson, co-chair of the APPG-WPS— discussed rising conflict-related sexual violence around the world and how our failure to stop the upsurge results from outdated International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and the failure of global institutions to acknowledge the changing character of warfare. Also speaking at the APPG was Baroness Helic and Tim Loughton MP.
